How to Reach L’Aquila
MicroRad 2026 is held in downtown L’Aquila, at the heart of the central Appenines mountains. There are 3 airports at about the same distance:
- Rome Fiumicino (FCO, international)
- Rome Ciampino (CIA, some international flights)
- Pescara (PSR, few low-cost international flights)
Direct bus services to L'Aquila are available from FCO and CIA (~3h trip).
We are also planning dedicated bus runs for people arriving on Sunday (Apr 26) in Rome FCO or CIA. Please let us know your flight details at info@microrad2026.it
How to Reach L’Aquila by Plane
L'Aquila does not have its own airport, but there are 3 airports at about the same distance.

- From Rome Fiumicino (FCO):
- Direct bus: There are few coach bus services connecting FCO to L'Aquila with several runs per day (Gaspari, Flixbus, Roma linee). Note that all buses leave from the bus station outside Terminal 3 and makes one stop in L'Aquila Amiternum (2.5 km from downtown, taxi reccomended).
- Train + bus combo: Trains are available from FCO to Rome Tiburtina (Trenitalia). The Tiburtina bus terminal is just outside the train station (200 m). Coach buses (TUA) run regularly from Tiburtina bus terminal to L'Aquila bus terminal (dowtown). Other bus services (Gaspari, Flixbus, Roma linee) run from Tiburtina bus terminal to L'Aquila Amiternum (2.5 km from downtown, taxi reccomended).

- From Rome Ciampino (CIA):

- Bus connection: Regular bus service (Trenitalia) connects PSR airport to Pescara bus terminal (close to Pescara centrale train station). Buses leave just outside the airport. Regular bus service (TUA) connects Pescara bus terminal to L'Aquila bus terminal (downtown).

How to Reach L’Aquila by Train
(NOT recommended)
L’Aquila is served by regional trains and does not have a high-speed rail station. Train service to L’Aquila usually takes longer than bus rides. If you travel by train, we reccomend to reach Rome Tiburtina or Pescara centrale and than take a bus from the bus terminal (just outside the train station) to L'Aquila downtown (TUA). Train connection is convenient only if you are coming from Terni.
How to Reach L’Aquila by Bus

Bus travel is the fastest way to reach L’Aquila, especially from Rome or Pescara. Direct and frequent buses operate from:
- Rome Tiburtina bus station: approx. 1 hour 45 minutes (TUA). Google Maps link to Congress Center "Luigi Zordan" of University of L'Aquila.
- Pescara bus terminal: approx. 2 hours (TUA). Google Maps link to Congress Center "Luigi Zordan" of University of L'Aquila.
Bus service TUA stops at the bus terminal "Lorenzo Natali" (downtown).
How to Reach L’Aquila by Car
L’Aquila is well connected by motorway.
- From Rome: take the A24 (E80) motorway, direction L'Aquila-Teramo. Exit at L'Aquila Ovest. Average driving time is 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Google Maps link from Rome Ciampino FCO to Congress Center "Luigi Zordan" of University of L'Aquila by car.
- From Pescara: take the A14 (E55) motorway direction Bologna, then connect in Mosciano to the A24. Exit at L'Aquila Est. Average driving time is 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Google Maps link from Pescara PSR to Congress Center "Luigi Zordan" of University of L'Aquila by car.
If your hotel does not offer parking, then we reccomend to park at the bus terminal "Lorenzo Natali".
