MicroRad 2026 will be held at the Congress Center “Luigi Zordan” of University of L’Aquila, hosted within a 14th century monastery (S. Basilio).

L’Aquila is a medieval town in central Italy, located about 120 km North-East of Rome at 700 m altitude. Nestled in a valley at the foot of the Gran Sasso (Big Stone), the highest peak of the Apennine mountain chain, it is the capital of the Abruzzo region. L'Aquila is rich in history, culture, and natural beauty, and it boasts a stunning medieval old town, historic churches, and vibrant squares. Founded in the 13th century, L’Aquila is often called the "City of 99" due to a legendary tale tied to its origins. According to tradition, the city was established by the union of 99 castles, each contributing a piazza, a church, and a fountain, shaping the city's unique layout. This symbolism is best represented by the Fontana delle 99 Cannelle (Fountain of the 99 Spouts), an iconic landmark featuring 99 water outlets. Despite being severely affected by the 2009 earthquake, L’Aquila has undergone extensive restoration, preserving its rich heritage while embracing innovation. The city is also home to the prestigious University of L'Aquila, a center of excellence in research and education. L’Aquila’s mix of history, resilience, and natural beauty makes it a fascinating destination to explore.
